FR – take care and proceed with caution

shapeimage_2Remember how I have remarked that external circumstances so often reflect your inner state of mind? I had arranged to spend nine days at Forest Refuge with Taraniya teaching. The first thing that happened was that the check engine light came on in the outback just as I was getting on the Garden State Parkway. Is this serious? Should I turn around and go back? Fall Break in New England

Thursday, October 30, 2014

shapeimage_2-15Our travels over Fall Break accomplished a number of things, all having to do with the heart. We started out in Barre at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies. Remember when I went to seshine with Michael? (see the blog entry from June 17, 2012) Well, he was finally making good on his part of the bargain – to come to something at IMS with me. U Tejaniya at IMS

Saturday, May 10, 2014

shapeimage_2-8This year I got offered a spot in the highly prized retreat with visiting Burmese master Sayadaw U Tejaniya. Some of the 100 folks at this years retreat had been at his last retreat two years ago. Others had been on the long waiting list for that one and were thrilled to be here now. The list of yogis was also filled with well known teachers and celebrities, Continue reading

Rincon, Puerto Rico

Sunday, March 23, 2014

shapeimage_2-12Thankfully, this trip was already planned long ago. Boy did we need to be on a beach in Puerto Rico for Spring Break! I had learned about the small cottage in the low key west coast town of Rincon from my ISPP buddy Jane. It was sort of a project to get there – renting a car and driving almost 4 hours in Saturday afternoon traffic from San Juan to Rincon. Continue reading

Alvin W. Pansey: March 9, 1922-February 14, 2014

shapeimage_2-11My Dad’s passing was actually very peaceful and mercifully quick. At age 91, he had been having various non-life threatening issues over the past years and months, some related to his post polio syndrome – mobility problems, weakness in his limbs, swallowing problems, a little pneumonia, a little blood infection in his leg, a little bladder infection. Nevertheless he seemed to be enjoying his life at Stonebridge and could often be heard whistling merrily as he drove his scooter along the hallways. Continue reading

Dragon Mother

Thursday, December 27, 2012

shapeimage_2-11I finally have some time to write about Dragon Mother. The whirlwind of the Fall semester has settled a bit over the holiday break and I can look back on the whole process of bringing this project to life. It started almost two years ago in the interval between semesters when I felt restless without enough to do. I decided to ask various composers to write pieces for me in the coming years. Introducing Hugo

Sunday, November 18, 2012

shapeimage_2-10Here is Hugo, our new rescue dog, his first day in his new home on Opossum Road. We picked him up on October 24th, in Aston, PA from a foster home in the Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue system. He was found poking in an ally in Lancaster, PA and taken in by MAESSR – a very impressive organization all around!. Continue reading

90th Birthday Party

Sunday, May 27, 2012

shapeimage_2-9Family from all over the country gathered today at the Salt Creek Grill for a 90th Birthday party for my mom and dad. It was amazing that all the arrangements worked out: Susanne came from LA, Sarah, Jeff and the kids from Boston, Harold and Linda from Florida, Gary and Kathy and Roy from Florida, Michael and Isabelle from RI, other friends of my parents from RI and Stonebridge. Gil and my dad were comfortable in wheel chairs and the staff at the restaurant made the day flow smoothly. My mom was giddy with delight and everyone had a great time and enjoyed being together for the first time in many years. They also loved seeing the slide show of historic photos I put together for the occasion. I’m so thankful that everyone made it to and through the day healthy and happy. What an event!

Dearest Thisbe

Sunday, March 11, 2012

shapeimage_2-7Dear Thisbe, our 14 1/2 year old beagle, died last night, or this morning. It was very peaceful, but very sad. She had been very sick for the past year or so, having little, and not so little seizures which sent us to the vet, Animerge, specialists in PA etc. Last July, she had a bad episode which left her with one leg paralyzed , and a terrific daily pill regime. Continue reading
